I still remember the days when I was in my secondary school where the books on fairy tales, fables, and legends and to name a few got very high demands. My friends and I will be rushing to the spot where these books are kept and we will have to fight over who gets to read which book first in order to languish our desire for the tales. Well, I don’t get to see that anymore.
On second thought, my students are only lack of exposure. Other than the literature books supplied by the MOE and the school library, they have limited resources and time constrain, too. Parents, teachers and the students themselves will only focus on getting good grades in the examinations. Thus, they claimed that they don’t have time to read in the rush of chasing the grades.
As an English Language teacher, I’m heavily responsible to guide my students to excel in the language. However, I think it’s OK to slot a few stories into my lessons. Even though I can’t do much but half a loaf is better than none.
I would like to share my all time favourite:
