~Voice of the People~

As I read Langston Hughes’ poems, the issues raised in them aren’t only for African American concern but they can be experienced by other ethnic groups, too.

One of the experiences was when Tunku Abdul Rahman led us towards the road to independence in 1951. It was the requirement set by the British before the transfer of power to Malayans by uniting the 3 ethnic groups in Malaysia. The 3 races need to work together to create the necessary conditions for a smooth political transition. When the various races began working together, then only we could start the nation-building process. His efforts were celebrated by all Malayans on midnight on August 30, 1957.

Mahatma Gandhi has bravely fought against racial discrimination against Indians. He has provided what had been rightfully to the people. Gandhi has also led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.
